This unique wood is also known as “Ambrosia Maple” as it has many different grain patterns
and color variations. This wood has a distinctively rustic nature and appearance.
The character in Wormy Maple is caused by a beetle that bores in the living wood and carries
a fungus on its legs that is deposited on the tree fibers. The flow of sap in the tree causes the fungus to spread through the holes the beetle has carved. The fungus causes wood discoloration in many shades of brown, but may also include orange, pink, light purple and green.
